Folks from all over Blount County came to Alcoa's Springbrook Park and Duck Pond for last night's Freedom Fest. The event had not been held for a few years because of budget constraints, but was back on this year.

We went over to see some of the entertainment, mainly Nuthin' Fancy featuring Garrett Holloway and David Russell. They're a kick-ass Southern Rock band heavy on Lynyrd Skynyrd covers, but my favorite was their take on Steve Earle's Copperhead Road.

The Tennessee Air National Guard Band of the Smoky Mountains was up next, and we stuck around for the jazz band's set. They put on an outstanding performance with some great big band arrangements.

We couldn't stay for the fireworks, but stepped outside when we heard the booms and were able to see a lot of them from our front porch.

The turnout was huge for FreedomFest 2013 and we hope to see it back next year. Thanks to the City of Alcoa, Alcoa Aluminium Company, and everyone else involved for putting on a great event.
