This site was started to give Blount County liberals, progressives, and Democrats a voice that isn't always heard in the local media and social circles. Says so right there in the "About BlountViews" site information and rules.

Progress means making things better, not tearing things down without any ideas for something better.

The site is intentionally open, so that anyone can sign up and post content within the site guidelines, and anyone is free to leave comments. It's my feeling that liberals and progressives can generally be trusted to be fair, honest, and responsible, so that shouldn't be a problem.

I had hoped that we could talk about positive things in the community that we could promote and also talk about positive solutions to what we see as things that might need fixing.

Unfortunately, the conversations are being taken over by anonymous posters with various axes to grind and turf to protect. Thoughtful, intelligent participants are being baited into arguments that serve no purpose other than to get everybody all upset for no good reason.

So, I'm asking just this one time for y'all to:

1. Chill.

2. Don't be spreading rumors and accusations that can't be backed up with verifiable facts. In fact, why even do that? Local government and community activism doesn't always have to be a game of "gotcha". Focus on positive change.

3. Don't feed the trolls. If you ignore them, they'll go away and seek attention elsewhere. Besides, why on earth would anybody argue with an anonymous person on the internet?

4. Be civil and respectful, even when you disagree.

Carry on.

I hope you're not speaking about me.

I am none of those things that you mentioned.

I've made it point to think for myself and not follow the crowd. I've always put stock in "right" and "wrong". These concepts are universal and not just progressive, democrat, liberal, republican, etc., blah, blah, blah.

Labels mean nothing in this day and age.

That's why I am a member of no political group or club.

I can back up EVERYTHING I SAY WITH PLENTY OF EVIDENCE, so relax on the advice! It is falling on deaf ears at this point.

As far as being anonymous....................if you don't know who I am by now, then you need to ask around.

SIC SEMPER TYRANNIS!

I am none of those things

I am none of those things that you mentioned.

Who said you were?

I can back up EVERYTHING I SAY WITH PLENTY OF EVIDENCE

Show us some.

if you don't know who I am by now, then you need to ask around.

Not sure why I should bother or care.

These concepts are universal and not just progressive, democrat, liberal, republican, etc., blah, blah, blah.

Fine, but read the site rules. If you can't pick a side, don't post on the front page.

Progress means making things

Progress means making things better, not tearing things down without any ideas for something better.

Well R, that's what I have been saying all along, there has not been any positives on this site. It's always negative and then of course you will have people complaining about the negativity. Can't fix today but you can help for years down the road. Takes time with what has been created to look towards the future.

2. Don't be spreading rumors and accusations that can't be backed up with verifiable facts. In fact, why even do that?

You have too many bloggers on here that want to do just that. Pretty close to slander and it is in thier own views without whole truths.
Until that is stopped and they start telling what they want others to hear out thier own interpretations.

this thread goes along

Not too sure why there is even any hostility since it is a discussion forum and with facts and not untruths.
