Raven Society Preservation Award...Submitted by FarmerJohn on Mon, 01/28/2008 - 16:33.
goes to Dean Stone????? Sure, he's a staple for Blount County history, but old Dean has also come out in strong support of the Pellissippi Parkway Extension and the Southern Loop (which the Raven Society is adamently against). And Booty giving him the award seemed kinda ironic.

Just saw ole Yellowdawg's comments in the Raven Society meeting announcement. Sorry for the duplicate blog thingy stuff.
There was not unanimous enthusiasm on the Raven board for doing this....
it was a good meeting but like i said in the other post... all the bashing on here by a few raven society members and then giving him the award/plaque was kinda funny. But then again isn't everything here? The lady that spoke was more geared towards the city then the county and most of her pictures and speach contradicted what the raven society fought against in the proposals to help with the sprawl issues that we are facing. Planning means future and not right now or past. So doing away without actually knowing the whole thought of future of the county. Hopefully the meeting opened up some eyes and minds as to what is needed for the growth of the county that will happen and continue to happen.
As Just a Citizen put it, "Hopefully the meeting opened up some eyes and minds as to what is needed for the growth of the county that will happen and continue to happen." That was what TRS hoped might come of it.
I do not agree, though, with the idea that "growth" cannot be slowed as well as guided. When we actively seek and encourage more people and thus housing, we are facilitating sprawl and all that comes with it, little of which is positive for our future, never mind for our tax rate.
