This popped up on the DT website, not sure what time: (link...)

The only surprise here is that the other people he spoke about at the Support Rally haven't filed suit also. Hopefully, the county mayor's attorney won't be billing the county for defense of Cunningham in his individual capacity. Wonder who he'll hire?

UPDATE:
Found the audiotape of the meeting, so you can hear the episode and judge for yourself - if you think you can handle hearing the phrase "testicular fortitude" all over again. (link...)

What do you think of this tape? Does it make any difference that Cunningham said he was not speaking as Mayor? I'm guessing that if he were an average Joe, he wouldn't have been as likely to be asked to be the keynote speaker, nor would it have been as likely that any of the press would have covered the story if he had spoken. Is it possible that his office added to the weight of his words?

Do you think YOU could have found out in a *SNAP* the sorts of things that Cunningham "said" that he did? And how would you feel if the Mayor of a neighboring town accessed your divorce file (exactly where did he get it, anyway? If I went to the Justice Center, would they give it to me?) and gave a little speech on it in front of a room full of "office-holders," a state representative, several lawyers, another judge, etc.? Not to mention a Senator who was apparently there in spirit. And what would lead a former US Attorney to believe it was appropriate to comment on pending litigation in such a setting, anyway?

Not to mention coming right out and saying Ana Calixto "ain't legal."

Could this be construed as a discussion of county business without public notice?

You go girl!

That was the same rally where he called Ana Calixto illegal.

That's because she is illegal.

Lester

Illegal?

I will ask you what makes her illegal? Are you suggesting that the federal government has issued false documents to her? Her immigration attorney had falsified information to aquire documents for her? Are you ready to slander good and respectable people by suggesting that they have falsified documents? Are you prepared to defend this slander against Ms. Calixto?
Like your buddy Bubba Cunningham has stated, with a little investigation one may "garner" the facts.

He's here for a reason

AB, I know this is personal for you - so does Lester. That's why he's here today. Last time the mayor stepped in it, he was back here talking about evolution. Today, the mayor and sheriff both stepped in it, and where is Lester? Here ready to chime in on Ana.

Don't give him the attention the GOP has sent him out to get.

I assumed

Yes, I assumed he was here to find out what was being said here so he can report back. I shouldn't have taken the bait but I did. Oh well...

Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.
Martin Luther King, Jr.

You got that right, BC Fan

The machine needed a good distraction from the lawsuit against Cunningham for his comments at the Rally for Judge Young. Did you catch this little line in the article with the story of Berrong/Cunningham vs. Reeves?

According to a sheriff's office press release...

So they generate a press release pointing the finger at someone else! How juvenile!

"I think it would be a good idea."
-Mahatma Gandhi, when asked what he thought of Western civilization

We're going to code red boys!

I guess the timing of this press release is Blount County's very own version of insecurity alerts.

Green- day after any Blount County election
Blue- just because we get tired of green
Yellow- the day a citizen asks a question about NASCAR trucks
Orange- the day a citizen gets an answer about NASCAR trucks
Red- .......

I'm going to break my own policy here but;

She had a current Employment Authorization Document.

Try has. If she was asked by an agent of authority if she had proof she was here legally and she gave them her EAD - could that agent arrest her for being "illegal"? In other words, not being a legal resident of the U.S. does not make it illegal to work and live in the U.S. As pointed out to you, many Denso employees are here under the same arrangement.

I do, however, like the Mayor

The mayor came to office extolling transparency. The problem is, the mayors office was not the big problem because there was essentially no mayor before him. "The Jewel of Blount County" Bennett was running things. As head of the GOP he still is. Bennett allowed the book cooking and finance wrangling that has allowed the Sheriff, Circuit Court Clerk and himself to do what they want with tax payer money. The DA has ignored it all. If abuse of taxes and designed ignorance of the law happens on the mayor's watch, is it not his responsibility to inform the public?

Besides stating; "Elected officials run their own departments", what has the mayor done about any of it? How does that kind of statement help the general public understand what's going on behind the closed doors of the courthouse.

BTW -

In an interview with a Knoxville television station, the sheriff said he was, “removing myself from the investigation.”

..,is not the only time Berrong has found himself at opposite ends of the law and his good old boys (link...)

Koella's attorney

Wasn't Carl Koella's attorney in this particular case no other than Jerry Cunningham, whom you've already said you like, Lester?

You seem to be an

You seem to be an intelligent man, Phinney.
You know that you are just trying to inflame here.
I don't give a rat's behind what you think, truth be known.
I know that illegal persons in this country are just that..... persons. Living breathing human beings who have a great need.
I am not in support of illegal immigration. Never have I said that I was. I am in support of treating people as human beings. I do not support looking down a snooty nose and dogging out people less fortunate than ourselves.
I am certain that you have never even spoken to an illegal immigrant. All you see are little brown people in the Walmart speaking something other than English or broken English at best.
Some people think they are just better than others.

A lack of a current Green

A lack of a current Green Card makes her illegal.

It doesn't sound like you know much about immigration law in the U.S. Maybe you ought to go study up.

Please educate me.

Perhaps you could recommend a source more knowledgeable than the US Bureau of Citizenship and Immigration Services.

Lester

Perhaps you could recommend

Perhaps you could recommend a source more knowledgeable than the US Bureau of Citizenship and Immigration Services.

Obviously you haven't completed your homework assignment. You need to study up on "green cards" (permanent resident legal alien status) v. the dozens of other types of visas and employment authorizations. It's very hard to take someone seriously when they clearly don't know what they are talking about.

Not sure why I waste time, though. My advice is for y'all to ignore trolls like this who only want to argue, get attention, spread false information, or all of the above.

Research what?

The crack news reporter Rick Laney won’t tell anyone what documents Calixto has that “prove” she is not an illegal alien. Her confidant, Alice Blevins, says that she has a workers permit or something.

The only thing Rick would admit to is that she has a current EAD. Liberals refuse to accept the fact that a current EAD does not prove legal residency. So what else is there? Ms. Blevins, who is clearly misguided, believes Calixto is legal, yet offers no proof of her legality.

What other types of visas do I need to “study up on” if you pro-illegal-alien fanatics will not let anyone know what she has?

Lester

you pro-illegal-alien

you pro-illegal-alien fanatics

Show me where I said I was a pro-illegal-alien fanatic?

Not “you” personally

The collective “you.”

Lester

Sounds like you need to look up

the difference between lawful "permanent" resident, and lawful "temporary" resident, and which category green cards apply to. Hint: it is both possible, and common, to be here legally without ever applying for permanent residency, i.e. a green card.

Let's not take our eyes of the ball, people!

This thread is about a lawsuit being filed against Jerry Cunningham for defamation. Lester is merely here to take our attention away from the gravity of that allegation. He admits to "liking" Cunningham.

Is that for his insults against people who've relocated here from points north? For his stance against the Sister City program? The manhandling of the South Blount Utility District? The taking back of the property deeded to the Children's Home by former Mayor Woodruff after a majority vote of the [then] county commission? The threats to commissioners asking questions on behalf of constituents?

Clearly we aren't going to be able to have a rational dialogue with this particular commentator.

"Whatever you do will be insignificant, but it is very important that you do it." -Mahatma Gandhi

Can Lester's rants be moved ...

SeeJaneRide
...to another thread? If he has nothing to add to the discussion on the defamation lawsuit, his immigration posts should be moved to another thread, or deleted. Perhaps Cunningham would happily meet Lester for coffee and they could get a caffeine high talking about the "illegals" with whom they seem so preoccupied.

Now, wait a minute...................

Phinney obviously sees things from another point of view than you do, SeeJaneRide.

Do you really think that a website that is engineered more for the progressive/liberal side of politics in Blount County could possibly be taken seriously if the editor of this site deleted or banned someone from this thread in a fascist manner normally reserved for the right side of things?

Do you really think it woul be wise for a democratic minded website to start limiting free speech that is from a different point of view?

I think not. Really, we need folks like Lester to open their mouths. You know what usually happens shortly thereafter, right?

If not, well................ to say that "it usually makes them look worse" is putting it lightly.

"Inclusiveness" is still a liberal ideal, right?

"I am a Conservative to preserve all that is good in our constitution, a Radical to remove all that is bad. I seek to preserve property and to respect order, and I equally decry the appeal to the passions of the many or the prejudices of the few." -Benjamin Disraeli

When it's that far off message...

SeeJaneRide

....it needs to be moved. Lester can discuss the immigration issue on a separate thread. He can discuss it on this blog, or elsewhere, openly, progressively, conservatively--anyway you want. Just learn to keep the threads on point, or start your own NEW thread.

...legal, illegal, galactic or Russian...........

Doesn't the county mayor vs. Calixto case involve "immigration"?

After all, is she not an "immigrant"?

When dealing with "immigrants" whether legal, illegal, galactic or Russian, if you add a few more letters to the end of the word, does the word "immigrants" not become "immigration"?

Are "immigrants" and "immigration" not related in nature?

How is speaking on "immigration" off topic when dealing with a mayor that has no problem violating the rights of "immigrants" and citizens alike?

Let phinney speak. Let him have his say. It is the "premise" of YOUR side to go out of your way to include everybody.

If you start controlling free speech in any capacity at all, then you are no better than the Lambert Camp who has done their best to "delete" the free-speech of the populous of Blount County.

Should we start referring to you as Bob Kidd?LOL

Think about it...............NO! REALLY think about it.

I'm not attacking you, I just don't want to watch someone like yourself, who is obviously intelligent, act in a elitist manner normally associated with the Lambert Camp. It is hypocritical to say the least.

Not to belabor the point

Kathy Wright is not an immigrant. Jerry Cunningham isn't an immigrant. So no, this thread isn't about immigration.

"Whatever you do will be insignificant, but it is very important that you do it." -Mahatma Gandhi

Ana Clixto is an immigrant

Ana Clixto is an immigrant who was defamed in public by the mayor.

Their premise is that she shouldn't have been here to begin with because they say that she is illegal.

Our mayor made light of that fact in a public speech that was nothing more than a "pep rally" of the Lambert Camp. At the very least that was a cheap way to get a response from a very sympathetic audience.

This is the beginning of Jerry's TRACK RECORD of opening his mouth and saying things that are liablous in nature.

Kathy Wright is a citizen who was defamed in public also by the same person.

Unlike the first example provided, Kathy Wright is taking the mayor to court over his comments which she has every right to do and should do. She has a legitimite case.

Are you sure you've been paying attention to the above comments?

I am not taking phinney's side of the argument. I completely disagree with him on most of what he has had to say. What is an argument with only two sides anyways? Isn't hearing from many different people on this issue, the concept of what a "blog" is all about?

I am taking the side of what is right and what is wrong. Deleting someone's comments or making them start their own blog is an attack on free-speech which is not to be expected of the liberal left.

I shouldn't care..............I understand the concept of free-speech unlike the multitude. Free-speech is not a double standard to me.

There is no "free speech" on this or any other blog. You are a guest here, and expected to behave like one.

Where did the thread go?

I beg to differ. The whole CONCEPT of a BLOG is FREE-SPEECH.

I beg to differ. The whole CONCEPT of a BLOG is FREE-SPEECH.

I don't think you understand the concept. At any rate, where is your blog, so we can go check out all the free speech?

You asked............

There are some other good blogs out there where free-speech is promoted.

I've never filed anything on it, but the ripoffreport.com is a pretty good one. There's always something new concerning Blount County.

I have been reading that blog for awhile.

I realize that you are the BOSS of this website. We all know that you're in charge. You've proven that. We all Know........We all KNOW.

But attacking me isn't hurting my credibility, it is destroying yours and everybody else's who posts on YOUR website. If people are happy posting blogs on a supposed liberal website that likes to ban people fascistly, I have no problem with that. I do have a problem with fascist liberals though. Fascists in general really bug me.

Check out the ripoffreport, you'll like it. There's always PROOF provided in every post that I have read concerning criminality amongst local Blount County Government.

We already know what I said. You really don't have to quote what I've said when you respond. Especially when it is right underneath what I've posted. C'mon, now..........

Thanks for the banter, "R".

Check out the ripoffreport,

Check out the ripoffreport, you'll like it. There's always PROOF provided in every post that I have read concerning criminality amongst local Blount County Government.

Ripoffreport.com is not a blog. From your remarks, it sounds like your mom just gave you your first modem for your birthday, you have just discovered the internets, and your massive brain farts are stinking up the ether.

At any rate, sites like ripoffreport.com are the EXACTLY the right forum for your type of "free speech", which you seem to define as speech free from any rational thought or purpose. You should spend less time here and more time there. I also recommend freerepublic.com, it's right up your alley and populated with like-minded keyboard crusaders righting all the wrongs and injustices done to them in junior high.

You are way off base here..................

Ha ha ha! That's pretty witty!

Did your boyfriend help you out with that one, Randy?LOL

Again, your un-substaniated attacks against me are doing nothing but destroying YOUR credibility and the credibility of your site.

You are really making a fool out of yourself. I think I'll stay until you ban me then I'll go and file a ripoffreport of my own. i don't want to leave without proving the point that you are a hypocrite just like the mayor and sheriff.

Practice what you Preach, Randy........Practice what you Preach.

I think that WPR's blog and Walker's blogs are pretty cool but just forgot to mention it.

You're just mad because someone who blogged on this site, that you banned, filed a ripoffreport against you and your site.

Just remember what you said in your last post. I'm going to print it out and carry it with me in my wallet. Maybe one of these days, "we can meet somewhere for coffee".

It's real easy to be a tough guy "on-line", Randy. Real easy.........

Personally, I think you should change the name of this website to Blount Liberal Elitist: a website EXCLUSIVELY for those who only believe in free-speech only for liberals. Blountviews just doesn't reflect the actual characteristics of the site. Perhaps BLOUNTVIEW without the "S" would be better.

You're sad, Randy, really sad...............

You are really making a fool out of yourself

So are you with your broken record. Your comments were very informative and interesting until you got stuck on Lambert Camp, Lambert Camp, Lambert Camp, Lambert Camp, Lambert Camp, Lambert Camp, Lambert Camp, Lambert Camp, Lambert Camp, Lambert Camp, Lambert Camp, Lambert Camp...MOVE ON, we get the point!

On another note, saw the house yesterday you were trying to upload a picture of behind Nawger Nob. God awful I agree.

Lambert Camp

This decade it's the Lambert Camp. A few decades back it was the Finley Camp, etc., etc., ad infinitum. Every few decades there will be another Family Name that receives and gets lotsa attention. But, fortunately, since we're living in the technology era, the tranparency also increases in intensity, and the folks who abuse the system, must become more tactful, for information flows too easily, nowadays.

viva Evo Morales

You're right................

I'm just curious as to when the Vulcan Materials Rock Quarry opened? I can't remember but I believe it was back in the 50's.

That's how long the Lambert Camp has been operating in Blount County.

I promise you all that is the last time that I will use that designation of what I define as the problem in local government on this blog.

In return, I expect Randy to start acting like what he claims to be.

I like some of you guys. I enjoy hearing that there other people in the county where I grew up that sees the hypocrisy of local government also. It re-enforces what I have thought for sometime now.

And so it goes............

Together WE Stand, Divided WE Fall.

Partisanship only serves to divide.

I appreciate all you folks! Even though WE ALL are just a bunch of "monkey worshippers"!LOL

Are 'monkey worshippers' worse than 'trash'?

We are not 'monkey worshippers' according to the County Mayor:

“And the bloggers that do the attacking — if you ever have time to look at that trash — are always anonymous.

“If you’re going to do that, at least have ... the testicular fortitude to say it to my face,” Cunningham said.

And, though our comments are considered "trash" we are not always "anonymous." Enough said.

- George Orwell, 1984

Then what is her proof?

She is not here without ever applying for permanent residency. She had applied for permanent residency. She had a green card. The green card is now expired. That means the proof of her permanent residency is gone. You suggest that it is possible for her to have temporary legal status. Fine. Prove it. She showed up in court with an expired green card, a current EAD, and a Tennessee Drivers Certificate. None of these documents prove legal status.

The Daily Times and you all claim that she has proof of legal residency. What is it? Why is it that after all these months we still have no proof of her legal residency?

Lester

Green Card

Ms. Calixto has never had a "Green Card" and did not show one in court, expired or otherwise. She has never claimed that she was a "legal resident".
Her status in the United States is legal, she legally works and pays taxes. She has met the requirements of the Federal government. She has met the residency requirements of the State of Tennessee and has a drivers licence, not a Driving Certificate such as is given to temporary workers with visas for more than one year.
She just doesn't seem to meet the requirements of Blount County for some reason.

Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.
Martin Luther King, Jr.

Come on!

Witnesses in the courtroom say that she admitted to being an illegal alien. Why is it so important that you defend this economic parasite? Why do you suppose Rick Laney did not publish the fact that it was you who alerted the so-called “American Civil Liberties Union”? Come on, Alice, everyone knows it was you. Fess up. Good ‘ol illegal-alien-loving Rick could not wait to report that, “Three large civil rights organizations sent a formal letter Wednesday to the Tennessee Court of the Judiciary expressing concern over Circuit Court Judge W. Dale Young’s treatment of Ana Calixto.” No one asked the obvious question. Who told them? It wasn’t Anna. She can’t speak English. Who told Rick about the court case to begin with, Alice? Was it you? She can’t understand any English but she could understand when the Judge allegedly told her to go home to Nicaragua? Come on Alice. You should be ashamed.

Illegal aliens are bad people, Alice.

Lester

Noone had to call the ACLU

The story of what was done to Ana Calixto in Blount County was picked up by the AP and we, the citizens, became the laughing stock of several entire countries. There was no need to call the ACLU, since it was painfully obvious we are a backwoods armpit and our judges can be quite ill-informed.

"Whatever you do will be insignificant, but it is very important that you do it." -Mahatma Gandhi

Yes

I defend Ana because it is the right thing to do. She was humiliated and distressed after her court appearence. This is the UNITED STATES of AMERICA for God's sake. "Not in my country" was my first thought after hearing what happened to her.
I am not afraid to say yes, I called Judge Young's office, gave my name and spoke with his secretary to voice my complete disbelief that this happened in a court in my country.
Yes I called the DT, and I mailed a copy of the newspaper article to the ACLU.
I have every right to voice my opinion. My opinion is that I could not believe that this happened in the United States.
I spoke with Ms. Calixto before and after her court appearence. Hickman tried to explain her status but Young would not hear it. She did not state that she was an illegal. It was her husband who freely admitted to being here illegally.
You don't know what you are talking about Lester. This case is over except for her appeal of the judge's decision. All she wants is a divorce decree. She wants nothing else to do with the court.
Ana's case has nothing to do with illegal immigration.
It has to do with discrimination in the court.

How do you know Ana doesn't speak any English? You had your last conversation with her on?????
Should I be afraid to admit I called Judge Young out on this one? If so I must not be in the country I was raised to believe in.

Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.
Martin Luther King, Jr.

When I'm wrong, I'm wrong!

Proud to know you, Alice. I hope I would have taken the time to do all that if I learned of it first. You really lived up to your by-line: "Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere."

"Whatever you do will be insignificant, but it is very important that you do it." -Mahatma Gandhi

Oh, bull! Come on, Alice!

She was not “humiliated and distressed.” Young threw out the case because she did not follow procedures properly and he was not sure if she had legal standing. The case was not about a restraining order. She wanted a divorce; which is a legal agreement. If she is in the country illegally, she does not have the capacity to enter into such an agreement. Young was doubtful of her legal capacity so he dismissed the case. By telling her to “go back home” and come here legally, she would then have the capacity to enter into such an agreement. You, apparently, left that out of the story. You found an eager reporter who loves illegal aliens and hates Judge Young through which to spew your false allegations. You should be ashamed.

You, dishonestly, went to the Anti-Christian Liberals Union (ACLU) and told them that Young would not give her a restraining order because she was an illegal alien. You spread lies and propaganda. You called the ACLU and played the race card. Typical liberalism. The story presented by Laney and the ACLU says that Young denied Calixto the protections of a restraining order because she is an illegal alien. That is a lie. That is not what happened and you know it. You should be ashamed.

According to Mr. Calixto’s attorney, Anna speaks little English. That is how I “know.” Also, according to Mr. Calixto’s attorney, Anna is a vindictive little woman who wants to use their children against her husband. Just like this Kathy chick is doing. Women who divorce their husbands use their children as ammunition. It happens. You are helping her. You should be ashamed.

Illegal aliens are bad people. They do not have the right to be here. Anna’s case has everything to do with illegal immigration. If she was not here she would not need a hearing in a U.S. court. I think illegal aliens are cheats. You equate that to “looking down a snooty nose” at them. I don’t like illegal aliens so, naturally, you conclude that I think that I am better than they. How juvenile! You, apparently, have never lost a job to an illegal alien. I’m not a Bible thumper either. But my Bible says “Thou shalt not steal.” That’s what illegal aliens do. They are thieves. What if you came home from work and found that someone had broken into your home through the back door. You called the police and were told that you should not consider this person a criminal; you should consider him an “undocumented resident.” How silly is that. People who are here illegally are just like the thieves that break into people’s homes in the dark of night. They are cowardly little thieves. You aid and abet them. You should be ashamed.

You should consider not using Dr. King’s quotes in your posts as I do not believe he would approve of the race-baiting tactics you so overwhelmingly embrace. You should be ashamed.

Lester

So...

...when was it Judge Young spoke to you about the particulars of this ongoing litigation, Lester? We know you weren't in the court room, thanks to Laney's press coverage. Obviously, the husband's attorney's job is to bash the wife - although to do so to someone outside the case is highly unprofessional. You need to consider the source and his motives.

Well, that's what someone who cared about the truth would do, anyway. People who just want to repeat some crap they've heard as though it were naturally true may find the shoe on the other foot some day.

Kathy Wright sued Jerry Cunningham for defamation for his little speech about her case in front of a rally for Judge Dale Young. That's what this thread is about. Focus your troll posts on that. What's wrong? Can't think of a defense for what he did?

"Whatever you do will be insignificant, but it is very important that you do it." -Mahatma Gandhi

From the troll

What statement did the mayor make that was untrue?

Lester

A suggestion

Perhaps Mr. Lester should go to the Knox County Circuit court clerk's desk and ask to see the file Kathy H. Wright v. Jerry Cunningham. A little effort would answer many questions.

BTW, I agree with Andy re: the thread being hijacked. But, to the credit of those who remember newsgroups back in the 1990s, the playbook has been around forever.

Breaking it down

Good god, Phinny, your a freaking broken record.

1 Look up "Temporary Protected Status."
2 Then look to see if it applies to Nicaragua (it does).
3 This exercise will show she is actually here "legally" without a green card and that the only person who can make her "illegal" is the person who made her "legal" - the President of the U.S.. Not you, Young, or Cunningham. Repeating something over and over just don't make it true. Saying it in front of lots of Republicans doesnt make it true.

Clinton granted Nicaragua TPS status and it is still in place.

The woman is legal.

This also begs the question

When is the Mayor the Mayor and not just a citizen?

When is a Commissioner an official and not just a citizen?

When is the sheriff an official and not just a citizen?

The only surprise here is

The only surprise here is that the other people he spoke about at the Support Rally haven't filed suit also.

Anas's case is still tied up in the appeal process. She still has no child support order, no custody order and is waiting until May. All due to the treatment she recieved in Judge Young's Court.
To Ms Wright I agree with Mello "You go girl!"
As for the Mayor, if you ain't right, you ain't right. If you ain't right on Oct 30th you still ain't right on March 13th.

i hope Cunningham's big mouth costs him his job. He speaks his mind, he just doesn't reallythink before he speaks. "New roads do not create development..."

I'm a bit surprised that the

I'm a bit surprised that the DT printed this since their attorney is the same guy as the county mayor's attorney, Rob Goddard. You would think he would have counseled them not to print it to protect his client. Then again... they didn't really print it, did they.

Then again... they didn't

Then again... they didn't really print it, did they.

We'll see tomorrow. I would like to see if the question of representation is asked/answered.

Oh, they better print it

I mean really, I have spent a good deal of time getting folks ready to picket the Tennessee Press Assn Awards. The TPA needs to add a few new award categories just to define what the heck the DT has done this past year.

I favor a Burt Campbell Award.

"Confused? You won't be, after this episode of...Soap"

SURPRISE!

The DT actually printed the story: (link...)

And questions are being referred by Cunningham to (drumroll please) GODDARD & GAMBLE. The same law firm who represents the Daily Times and the County Mayor in his official capacity is apparently representing the Mayor as an individual, as well.

I'm impressed that this story made it into print at all. I think today's Blount Views Press Award should go to Mark Boxley.

How in the world.....

How can the same firm represent all the parties in all their capacities?

I'm not a lawyer

I'm really not sure how that works. I don't think that the Daily Times was named in the lawsuit.

Conflict of Interest

I may not be a legal eagle, but this sounds like a definate conflict of interest to me. Small town...same law firm...everyone knows each others business....geez!

What is the conflict of

What is the conflict of interest? Everybody has the right to have a lawyer and that includes the Mayor. Why should he have to have different lawyers when in court as a civilian and as the mayor? This dispute has nothing to do with the newspaper.

He's not a civilian.

He's not a civilian. He's the County Mayor.

Yes, everybody has the right to have an attorney in a court of law..........just not when it's a conflict of interest as in this case.

Maybe he'll represent himself!

SeeJaneRide
Let's not forget Cunningham IS an attorney. He passed the bar somewhere back when. Maybe he could represent himself! Can you imagine what he might say to the judge? "Why, your Honor, we wouldn't be in this mess if it wasn't for the Russians and illegal immigrants!"

TV News

Story was picked up by WBIR: (link...)

And how would you feel if

And how would you feel if the Mayor of a neighboring town accessed your divorce file (exactly where did he get it, anyway? If I went to the Justice Center, would they give it to me?) and gave a little speech on it in front of a room full of "office-holders," a state representative, several lawyers, another judge, etc.?

I would feel like asking the judge if I could give this problem to my wife.

Ye shall know the truth...

...and the truth shall land you in court.

Something tells me if this was a liberal wack job making a comment about a husband who though he was getting hosed, your reaction would be different.
Lester

whack job

No, it's a conservative whack job who is mayor and is making ludicrous statements at public events. He's a former attorney general for christ sake. Idiot should know better.
