Maryville Daily Times: Deputy files action against official
French confirmed that Pitts Reeves told him outside of a commission meeting on Feb. 21 that "she wouldn't talk to me because I was probably wearing a wire." He said his complaint states that Pitts Reeves also made a statement to him concerning "a Mr. McTigue," who was allegedly followed home one night after a commission meeting.
The article says Chief Deputy Jeff French filed the complaint against Commissioner Wendy Pitts Reeves with the Blount County Ethics Committee on Tuesday.
Doesn't Blount County government have more important business to take care of? And why is Wendy Pitts Reeves such a lightning rod for controversy regarding local establishment politics? Is it because she asks questions?
BIG UPDATE: More on the "other" ethics complaints, with some actual, like, reporting and stuff.

Heh. Good one.

Exactly what I thought when I read the paper this morning. Unless he has it on tape!
And why are they so scared of Wendy? Is it just to deflect the criticism pointed at them? Or are they just afraid of the questions?
Terry
It just gets more sad
Intimidation at public meetings, fake degrees, missing cars, threats against employees, retribution against whistle blowers, wrecking cars while doing other jobs, harassing reporters, creating deals for family members with confiscated cars (link...), broken arms, lawsuits...., why would there possibly be a reason not to trust? Sounds like someone gave her good advise.
This all seems about par for both entities involved here. The other being The Daily Times. Notice in the article there two other complaints mentioned. Seen either of those in a headline above the fold? It's politics people - plain and simple. Nothing to do about it until the DT goes bankrupt, just know it when you read their rag.
Was the wire a gift?
Since the Ethics Committee can only deal with gifts and conflicts of interest just what purpose does this complaint serve?
Will it deflect from the ethics compliant against the mayor like the sheriff's press release about the towing issue deflected the DT's coverage of Wright v Cunningham?
Why has the DT only covered this complaint and not the other two?
It's only tax dollars
Since it's only tax dollars and not real money, perhaps the Commissioner's should hire press writers too. That way everybody can just mail it in at their leisure.
Didn't that article state that this allegation occurred in February?
That was last month! Moot point!
New Service : 911-2
The tattle tale emergency line. So when the kids have a "stop touching me" or "Mom, Junior called me a name!" issue , they can just call the sheriff's department. This guy is an Assistant Chief for Christ's sake.
I'm with the poster on this, isn't there better things Blount County could be focusing on?
isn't there better things
Exactly! That's the reason for this. Slight of hand. Watch this nonsense so you don't notice what the other hand is doing.
(And you make the other commissioners afraid to ask questions about that other hand.)

More tail wagging from BT
Here is another take, or dog wagging, however you want to look at it.

I found the Mayor's description of a private citizen's ethics complaint pretty par the course.
Uh? I think that's four words and hyphen dude!
Probably the result of too much fluoride.
Since I became mayor, what I
All this reeks of desperation to me. I've always heard any press is good press so at least Wendy's name is getting out there more and more.
All they are doing is getting the citizens more familiar with her name and where she stands. They must not realize that many, many citizens are tired of the way this county has been run by a select group of people for many years. I believe many citizens are saying, or at least thinking, "Good for her, let's put a stop to this underhanded crap and get an honest, open and undiscriminating government in power in Blount County.
Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.
Martin Luther King, Jr.
That was directed at Ms. King
I think that quote referenced Linda King. But it really doesn't matter, you're either with the Mayor or your not. But like you said, it just continues to help those of us looking for something other than the good old boys. The fact these guys think crap like this "helps" their cause just proves how out of touch they are. I'm hearing a lot of Farmer Johns statement from above around town today. No one thought this wasn't a waste of time.
And as far as Linda goes, she has a difference of opinion. I might add, it's an opinion that lines up with a survey of utility users and many of those associated with SBUD. This makes her a stupid liar? There is only one apology owed in this town.
I must admit I took the
I must admit I took the quote from an earlier comment before I read the story at BT, but I agree that it doesn't matter. It's all the same. That's why I did not edit to clarify that.
I don't for a minute believe that the general public is buying these "wanting attention" type of comments from the mayor and other officials.
Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.
Martin Luther King, Jr.
Yeah, I'm still trying to
Yeah, I'm still trying to figure out why anyone would want THAT kind of attention from Cunningham.
sniff, sniff, is this another law suit I smell?
Patent To invent, originate, or be the proprietor of (an idea, for example).
mendacity- A lie; a falsehood.
I rather think there is a big difference in "invented lies" vs "utmost stupidity."
Dang, the fun* never stops in Blount County. The above quote from the mayor in regards to the citizen activist is in BT. The following quote is in today's DT.
(link...)
QUOTE..It’s just a shot across the bow by a woman that evidently did not get enough attention when she was little. It’s ludicrous.
Wah, wah, wah...
Sounds like French needs a nap. Maybe a blankie, too.
So now you can file an ethics complaint just because someone hurt your feelings? Or does that just apply to members of the Sheriff's administrative staff? (Everyone else has to limit their complaints to 1. Conflict of interest or 2. Gifts.)
Hey, if this committee will hear just any old thing, how about we BlountViewers file a class action ethics complaint against the entire Republican Machine for making Blount County look like a pathetic backwater?
