Vote for Meares. He's taking this job seriously.
should blount views now be Link...? ;)
Only until Aug. 7th. There'd be lots more election action if there were any other Democrats on the local/district ballots. I'm guessin 2010 will be interesting.
I sure wish there were some democrats in the state house and senate race. I get sick thinking McCord is waltzing back in...
RNeal, you should run....
No way I'd put myself or my family through that. Blogging is bad enough.
It is interesting that McCord has no competition for his seat after the speeding and smoking controversies. Like Sheriff Berrong, a relative of his, he seems to have a Teflon surface when it comes to politics. Are people afraid to run against all that money?
Farmer John, I think I'll write you in as a write-in.

I cannot believe Randy forgot to ask is Honor why he chose not to punish the bicyclist murderer. An innocent oversight, I’m sure.
Lester
You are so far over the line with this crap Lester that I have to think Jerry and the boys pay you by the post. You owe an apology to the victim's family. Right here. Right now.
I am sure you are aware of a LTTE in today's MDT that shows how far off base you are. Link...
The murderer has to go away for eight years and promise never to drive a car in exchange for taking another human life. No one with an IQ higher than patio furniture calls that punishment. Yet, as you believe, we should be happy with Meares because he could have let him walk.
You should apologize for supporting Meares. Meares should apologize for believing that the rest of Roth’s life is only worth eight years of Carroll’s. I should apologize for trying to talk to a liberal.
I guess I’ll be voting for Duggan.
Lester
We're all so surprised to hear you are voting for Duggan. Not. Naturally, you would want to make the choice to protect the rear ends of the powers-that-be.
Never mind that in voting for Duggan, you are also voting for his completely unknown replacement as Sessions Judge. Talk about a pig in a poke. But then again, Jerry Cunningham and "his" commissioners have never let you down yet, have they?

Once again "Phinney" is addressing a subject he knows NOTHING about.
Judge Mike Meares gave the guy the harshest sentence he is allowed to give by law. Maybe Phinney needs to go back to school and study up on how judges sentence people.
Krista Thompson, the sister-in-law of the vicitim, said in The Daily Times, "Judge Meares was fair and did the right thing. I am glad that he agreed with our side, but I am even more grateful that he listened to both sides and seemed to truly consider everything before making his decision. I got the impression that he did not have his mind made up until the end of the hearing."
The family and most everyone else in Blount County knows that Judge Meares handed out the toughest sentence allowable by law for this guy. Either Phinney is uninformed or trying to stir people up. Considering the nature of this accident, I can only pray he is uninformed.
False. An eight year prison sentence for the brutal murder of a bicyclist is not the harshest punishment allowable by law. It is sad that you believe that the rest of Roth’s life is worth only eight years of Carroll’s life.
Also, I’m not sure what referencing the response of the victim’s family has to do with anything. Whether or not a victim’s family agrees or disagrees with a punishment sentencing has no bearing on what is just. Remember, the crime was directly committed against the victim, not the victims family. If you murder another human being with your vehicle, that least you can do is be removed from the population permanently.

Or you can get off without serving anytime if Jerry Cunningham is your lawyer. Lester, you are a hypocrite's hypocrite.
Justifying bad behavior by pointing to other bad behavior? That’s no way to debate. You could learn a few things from Bill O’Reily.
Lester
Well, what do you think of Carroll's attorney trying to reduce the already-inadequate sentence then? He's using a chance encounter wherein both Meares and Mrs. Roth were present at the same fundraiser and ran into each other quite by accident.
The way I hear it, as soon as Meares realized she was present in the group he was talking to, he politely excused himself. It's a small county - this stuff happens. I hope this desperate move doesn't cause the family even more suffering.
